PCU Nursing Research Journal Club

Description

Target Audience:  Nurses working with patients on a progressive care unit, or other interested nurses.

Purpose:  The PCU Nursing Research Journal Club strives to provide evidence-based practice information on topics related to progressive care patients.

Educational Objectives:  

  • To enhance nurses’ knowledge of the research process 
  • To enhance nurses’ ability to critically evaluate published nursing research 
  • To develop an awareness of current nursing research studies 
  • To evaluate current practice based on nursing research results 
  • To further develop and enhance critical thinking skills 
  • To enable nurses in acute-care areas an opportunity to participate and network in a journal club that focuses on their specific needs 
  • To motivate nurses to participate in evidence-based practice and/or nursing research projects. 

Desired outcomes:  

The desired outcome is to provide access to current evidence-based research, and, through guided discussion, determine methods of integrating key elements into current practice while continuing to provide safe and effective care.

Format:  

Traditional meetings will be held every other month.

Articles are located on the Medical Library Journal Club page on IntraLee.

Participants should print, read, and bring the article with them to sessions.

Frequency of meetings: Every other month, with one session to be held during the day, and one session to be held at night.

Place:  Meetings will be held at Lee Memorial Hospital in the 3North break room.
 

Reading assignments:  

A link to the full-text of the article to be reviewed will be posted on the Medical Library Web page on IntraLee.
 

Available credits:  

Application has been made to earn one (1) contact hour for each Journal Club meeting attended
