Today, April 23rd, we celebrate World Book Day! The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) created this special day to celebrate books, authors, publishers, and illustrators. After all, reading is a huge part of our lives!

This date was chosen because William Shakespeare and several other major authors died on April 23, 1616, and several others were born. To save you a little time and digging, we at the Medical Library will share some of Shakespeare’s famous quotes with you. Through his works, the Bard of Avon imparted advice over 500 years ago which still holds true today!

Shakespeare encourages us to set goals and strive to achieve our full potential, in this quote from Hamlet:  “We know what we are, but know not what we may be.”

Once we achieve those goals, we are advised to keep busy, setting the bar higher and pushing the limits, in this gem from Troilus and Cressida:  “Things won are done; joy's soul lies in the doing.”

Most importantly, we are urged to listen to our inner voice about how we live our lives, in this advice from Hamlet,  “This above all; to thine own self be true.”

So be true to yourself--journey to one of our four Medical Library locations, open a tome, and experience some of joy’s soul as you move closer to accomplishing your goals!
